About Our Garden

Semken Landscaping and Lentara UnitingCare (Lentara), have partnered to create a Community Garden at our Broadmeadows location. The Garden will provide much needed fresh food for our Emergency Relief Program. The garden serves a greater purpose than food production, it’s also about building a positive environment where the Lentara Community can come together to grow, share and make social change.

Lentara's Emergency Relief Program supports over 5,000 children and families annually by providing food and essential items. Hume City Council's Health and Wellbeing Plan 2013 - 2017 identified that Hume children were not eating the recommended fruit and vegetable serves and that a "secure, healthy and sustainable food system" is essential in effecting change. Lentara's Community Garden aims to increase the fresh fruit and vegetables supplied to families through our Emergency Relief Program.

Lentara's Community Garden is different from other Community Garden's. The positive outcome of this initiative will directly impact vulnerable children and families in our community. As Lentara strives to be at the forefront of Social Innovation, the Community Garden has the potential to become part of a larger sustainable food system in Melbourne's North Eastern Suburbs.
